"What Future for the Young Writer?"

Bates writes of the dearth of magazines and newspapers publishing poetry and short stories, and of the competition from cinema, radio, and television for the time and attention of the public. Earlier in 1952 Bates wrote another piece for the Daily Telegraph called "The New Writer's Cramp." In the Daily Telegraph (London, December 18, 1952, p. 6).
