"The Sun of December."

The narrator, (named Richardson as in a number of other works), visits a friend in his late eighties who complains that "they're talking of putting me in a wheelchair." Departing after lunch, he sees "him still standing on the terrace. The spring-soft sunlight of the winter afternoon was bright on his face. He did not lift his hand." In the Evening News (February 29, 1956, with title "Sun In December,") The Wedding Party (1965).
