"Joe Johnson."

A tale of a simpleminded fruitseller who develops an obsessive infatuation with a younger customer. His helplessness, and her willingness to take advantage of it, lead him to neglect his business and lose his shop, returning to selling with a horse and cart. In John O'London's Weekly (January 10, 1941), Best Broadcast Stories (1944), Colonel Julian and Other Stories (1951). Reprinted in Love Stories (1991).
