"The Bell."

A "Flying Officer X" story in which the narrator and a comrade visit a pub accessible by ferry, a bell serving to request ferry service, and visit with the proprietors about a well-loved fellow pilot. Aspects of that pilot's story resemble those of the pilot in "The Greatest People in the World." In The Times Literary Supplement (April 3, 1943), Jerusalem Radio Forum (June 4, 1943), Royal Air Force Journal (July 1943), Slipstream: A Royal Air Force Anthology (1946), The Stories of Flying Officer 'X' (1952).
